N.Y. Partnership Acquires 5.7% of Amwest Insurance

A group led by the New York investment partnership Tweedy Browne Co. said it acquired a 5.7% stake in Amwest Insurance Group, a Woodland Hills provider of bail bonds and other surety products.
In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the group said it holds 133,950 Amwest common shares, including 118,450 shares bought from July 8 to Aug. 14 at prices ranging from $8.50 to $9.25 a share.
The group purchased the stock for investment purposes, the filing stated.
