IRVINE — Enhanced Imaging Technologies Inc. said Tuesday that its Vari-X Inc. subsidiary will buy a Texas-based distributor of specialized films used by cardiac catheterization laboratories to show images of the heart.
The acquisition of Cine Film Systems Inc., which has between $3 million and $3.5 million in annual revenue, will boost Vari-X Inc.’s share of the $60-million cardiac film market to about 40%, spokesman Robert Quinn said. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
At the same time, Enhanced Imaging Technologies announced that it has been selected as the exclusive U.S. distributor of Du Pont Co.’s line of cine angiography film. The distribution agreement means that Vari-X now supplies three of the five types of film available for cardiac imaging.
Enhanced Imaging Technologies, which went public this spring, had revenue of $22.4 million for the first half of this year. The company, which is based in Irvine, supplies products and services for heart imaging through Vari-X and its other wholly owned subsidiary, Optical Devices Inc. The company plans more acquisitions as a way of expanding into other products and services in the heart lab marketplace.
