More on Malcolm: Sources at CBS News say that filmmaker Spike Lee has called producers of an upcoming documentary on Malcolm X to complain that the network is trying to steal some of the thunder from Lee’s own upcoming film biography of Malcolm X. “There’s no reason for him to be concerned about what we’re doing--we’re doing a traditional, historical documentary,” said a CBS News spokesman. CBS officials acknowledge that their documentary, which will be anchored by Dan Rather, was inspired by the new attention that will be given to Malcolm X with Lee’s film. But they point out that their film is scheduled to air in December, while Lee’s movie is set for a November release. Lee could not be reached for comment.
