Streep as Norma Desmond?: A spokesman for Andrew Lloyd Webber denied a published report that Meryl Streep has been selected to play Norma Desmond in the composer’s upcoming “Sunset Boulevard,” which Lloyd Webber hopes to open late next spring. Meanwhile, a source close to Streep said she was offered the role but declined after it appeared likely that the show would open in London instead of Los Angeles. The Lloyd Webber spokesman said neither the location nor the casting of the production has been settled, but Trevor Nunn will direct and John Napier will design the sets.
