Poway, Torrey Pines Are Top-Seeded

Poway High and Torrey Pines High were awarded top seedings for the Reebok/San Diego Section volleyball playoffs, which start Tuesday.
Poway (21-1) is the top seed in the Division I tournament--featuring the county’s 16 largest schools. The Titans, Palomar League champions, will play host to Patrick Henry (6-8) at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Torrey Pines (20-6) is No. 1 in the 16-team Division II bracket and will play at home against El Cajon Valley (7-8) at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The seven-team Division III tournament starts at 7 p.m. Friday with top-seeded La Jolla (27-6) drawing a bye.
The Division IV tournament starts Tuesday, with top-seed Clairemont (10-9) also drawing a bye.
No. 1 Bishop’s (21-4) will get a bye in the opening round of the 12-team Division V bracket, which opens Thursday. All matches will start at 7 p.m.
MEN’S SOCCER
The University of San Diego scored three times in the second half to beat host UC Irvine, 4-2, and overcome a 2-1 halftime deficit.
Chugger Adair scored twice and Doug Berry once in the second half as the Toreros improved to 15-4. Thobe Taitano scored in the first half for USD.
Dave Weidner and Manny Hernandez scored for UC Irvine, which ended its season 7-12.
