Musician Buddy Collette Joins Cal Poly Faculty

Musician and composer Buddy Collette has joined the Cal Poly Pomona music department faculty as conductor of its jazz band and combo.
The saxophonist became prominent in the orchestras of Louis Jordan, Benny Carter and Gerald Wilson in the 1940s. He was the first black musician to play in a television studio orchestra on the Groucho Marx show in the 1950s.
Carter teaches, composes, performs for feature films and television, and leads his own band.
