IRVINE — Superior Optical, a chain of eyeglass and contact-lens stores, said Wednesday that it plans to be acquired by Benson Eyecare Corp. of Minnesota.
“We’re very encouraged. It broadens our base and gives us access to a truly national-scope marketing approach,” said Wayne Muller, president of Irvine-based Superior Optical.
Benson Eyecare said it will issue $800,000 worth of its unregistered common stock to acquire Superior Optical.
For its fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 69-year-old Superior Optical had revenue of $5.2 million.
As part of the arrangement, Superior Optical will keep its current management and its staff of 59. The company has 29 dispensaries, including Orange County outlets in Garden Grove, Costa Mesa, Laguna Hills, Fullerton and Newport Beach. Most are situated in hospitals or medical centers.
