New Capital Standards For Insurers Approved: At a Sunday meeting of the National Assn. of Insurance Commissioners in Atlanta, regulators approved details of a plan that has been in the works for two years and covers the life and health insurance industry. The system sets “risk-based capital requirements” that force insurers to maintain an adequate cushion against a wide range of financial risks. It also gives regulators greater authority to intervene.
