Controversy Over Alcohol Outlets
Congratulations to your staff writers Marc Lacey and George White for their two-part series on alcohol issues and problems in Los Angeles. The articles covered a wide range of subjects that those of us who work in this field encounter on a daily basis. The recent riots and the controversy over rebuilding liquor stores in South-Central highlight the problems that neighborhoods throughout the city are facing when trying to limit alcohol availability.
The good news is that an ever-increasing group of people recognize that alcohol problems go beyond the individual and his/her drinking habits. There are public health and safety issues surrounding alcohol abuse that affect individuals, families and communities.
We encourage you to continue this in-depth coverage of one of our nation’s major social problems.
