El Monte : School Board Recall Drive
A group of parents in the Mountain View School District said Tuesday that they will launch a recall campaign against school board members Robert L. Griffith, Edwin E. Wallach and Georgino Caraveo.
The parents claim that board members micro-manage the district, pursue individual agendas and weaken administrative leadership.
They also complain that board members have failed to respond to declining test scores and display a lack of respect for Spanish-speaking parents. The district, which serves students in El Monte, is 78% Latino and 70% of students speak limited English.
The parents have formed a committee called Basta, which is Spanish for enough.
Board members could not be reached for comment over the holiday week.
To qualify for a recall, the committee must obtain the signatures of 25% of registered voters in the district--about 2,500 voters.
