Joe Phears, a senior guard at Pomona High, set a Southern Section record by making 14 three-point baskets in a 137-101 victory over La Puente Bassett at Pomona.
Phears, 6 feet, had eight of the long-range shots in the first half and added three each in the final two quarters. He broke the section record of 13 set by Rick Martinez of Fontana Ambassador Christian last season.
Phears, a senior averaging 19 points per game, had never made more than eight three-points shots in a game before Friday night.
