COLLEGE BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Milligan Spurs Pierce With 5 Hits

Kevin Milligan went five for five, scored five runs and knocked in six Saturday to lead Pierce College to a 25-5 rout of El Camino in an elimination-round game of the Cerritos-Fullerton tournament at Cypress College.

The Brahma third baseman hit a three-run homer, a two-run double and three singles.

Teammates Josh Smaler and Bryan Corey each had three hits as Pierce rebounded from Friday’s 10-4 loss to Southwestern in the tournament opener.

The Brahmas, who collected 24 hits against El Camino (0-2), received four innings of shutout relief from pitcher Osman Khan.

Milligan maintained his stroke, adding a double in the Brahmas’ second game of the day, a 5-3 win over Canyons (1-2) at Cerritos College. The game was called after seven innings because of darkness.

Riverside 4, Canyons 2--Chad Miyata hit a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the eighth to tie the score, 2-2, in the Cerritos-Fullerton tournament quarterfinal at Cerritos College, but the Tigers scored twice in the top of the ninth.

Mission 8, Santa Barbara 5--Lenny Avalos tripled home his brother, Richard, in the bottom of the eighth to break a 5-5 tie and the Free Spirit went on to win a third-round game in the Taft tournament.

Mission trailed, 5-1, before scoring twice in each of the fifth and sixth innings.

Earlier in the day, the Free Spirit (2-1) scored five runs in the second inning and cruised to a 10-2 victory over Porterville.

The Master’s 3-5, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 5-4--Kenya Hunt drove in two runs and Joe Pence had two hits and an RBI as The Master’s won the second game of a nonconference doubleheader at Cal Poly. The second game was called after five innings because of darkness. Starting pitcher Mark Redman (1-0) got the win for The Master’s (2-1).

Mt. San Antonio 3, Moorpark 2 (10 innings)--Brian Vasey had three hits, including a double, and Aaron Fischer had two hits, but the Raiders (0-2) fell in a nonconference game.

Ventura 7, Antelope Valley 5--Chris Mace hit a two-run triple and added a double to lead the Pirates to a nonconference win at Ventura.
