When the season started, it was undecided if Hearvey, who is 6 feet 1, would play forward or the swing position. But as the season has progressed, Hearvey has established herself on the front line and is one of the top rebounders in the Orange Empire Conference.
She had 20 points and 15 rebounds last Friday as the Chargers beat Rancho Santiago, 71-43. Hearvey is averaging 11.4 rebounds, which is second best in the conference. She also leads Cypress in scoring at 14.5.
Hearvey enters Cypress’ final three games with a chance to set the college’s single-season rebounding record. She currently has 284 rebounds, which is sixth best at Cypress. Hearvey needs 39 to pass Pam Fritsch, who had 322 in 1986-87.
Other top performers:
Cinnamon Basco, who scored 22 points and had 14 rebounds as Golden West beat Orange Coast, 68-60.
Shelly Calhoun, who scored 40 points, making 14 of 17 free throws, as Saddleback split two games.
