Monterey Park : College Health Clinic Opens

White Memorial Medical Center and East Los Angeles College will open a student health center at 10 a.m. today on the Monterey Park campus.
The center, 1301 Brooklyn Ave., is believed to be the country’s first joint hospital-campus health center. Doctors and nurses will be provided from White Memorial, a 377-bed acute care hospital in Los Angeles.
The new health center will be the first at the campus in about 10 years. The old clinic was shut because of budget cuts.
The clinic will serve the college’s 15,000 students with services including emergency care, psychological care and women’s health and obstetrical services. The clinic also will offer classes on AIDS, smoking cessation and birth control.
