PROUD TINA: Tina Turner’s first album for Virgin Records will be mostly old songs. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is recording new versions of old Ike & Tina Turner hits for the soundtrack to “Tina,” the film biography that is due in theaters this summer. The album, due June 15, will also feature three new songs.
And yes, it will be Turner’s voice singing in the movie, not actress Angela Bassett, who is portraying her on screen. Larry Fishburne, who was in “Boyz N the Hood,” plays Ike. Tina is also planning a concert tour to promote the movie and album; the shows are expected to concentrate on old hits from the Ike & Tina catalogue and her ‘80s comeback.
