STREETWISE: Traffic signals nowadays are controlled by distant computers, which can sense traffic and shine green lights where they’ll do the most good (E1). . . . But even the computers can’t cope with something like the Anaheim Stadium parking lot after a game, so humans take over the control-room switches. . . . “It used to take an hour and a half to empty the stadium parking lot after a sold-out Rams game,” says traffic engineer James M. Paral. “Now we’ve got it down to an hour.”
