PREP ROUNDUP : Brea-Olinda Advances in the El Segundo Tournament

Mike Brambilla doubled home Jason Theis in the bottom of the ninth to lift Brea-Olinda to a 2-1 victory over Burbank Burroughs in a second round El Segundo tournament baseball game Saturday.
Steve Trombly, who pitched eight innings, allowed five hits and struck out four. Geoff Cochems pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the victory for Brea-Olinda (2-0).
In other tournament games:
Edison 12, Manhattan Beach Mira Costa 6--Jamie Surdock earned the victory for Edison (2-0), allowing only five hits. Mira Costa is 1-1.
Westminster 10, Arcadia 6--Jorge Valles and Aristeo Rodriguez each had two hits for Westminster (2-0).
In nonleague boys’ baseball:
Buena Park 6-8, Santiago 3--3--Alfonso Flores had three hits, a home run, and four RBIs in the second game to lead Buena Park (2-0). Flores also pitched seven innings with seven strikeouts.
Angel Najar had a three-run triple in the first game for Buena Park.
Calvary Chapel 21-7, Downey Calvary Chapel 5-1--Greg Smith hit a three-run home run in the first game and Steve Shearer, Mike Garner, and Ryan Elliott combined on a two-hitter in the second game as visiting Calvary Chapel (2-0) swept the doubleheader.
Capistrano Valley Christian 19-13, Santa Fe Christian 1-19--In the first game, Capistrano Valley Christian left fielder Kevin Fisher hit a grand slam in the second and teammate Russ Bennett had four RBIs and a sixth-inning home run.
Sunny Hills 5-11, Saddleback 1-2--Eric Smith had three hits to lead Sunny Hills (2-1) to a sweep in the doubleheader.
Troy 3-5, Valencia 2-4--Brian Logan of Troy (2-0) hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth to score Larry Donlin in the second game of the doubleheader.
Marina 9-12, Glenn 11-4--Joey Snyder went three hits with five RBIs in the second game to lead Marina (2-1). Kevin Sullivan had four RBIs in the two games for the Vikings.
Orange Lutheran 8-8, Laguna Beach 7-13--Jeff Courvoisier, who pitched the last three innings allowed one hit, struck out five and walked none for host Orange Lutheran (1-1), which won in eight innings. Jeff Reiland and Dale Huss each had three hits for Orange Lutheran.
In the second game, Laguna Beach (1-1) scored five runs and had five hits in the third inning. Trigg Garner had three hits for the Artists. Orange Lutheran is 1-1.
Garden Grove 11-8, El Modena 0-4--Garden Grove’s Jim Sebreros had two home runs, including a grand slam in the first game, and eight RBIs in the doubleheader for host Garden Grove (2-0). El Modena is 0-3
Century 6-2, Huntington Beach 2-9--In the first game, Century’s Abe Inocencio hit a two-run single with two outs in the top of the sixth to tie the score, 2-2. In the top of the seventh, Tony Garcia hit a three-run double to help the Centurions (1-1) win the opener. Tommy Reimers pitched a four-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks for Century.
In the second game, Ryan Brannan hit a two-run single in the first, and a two-run home run in the second to lead the Oilers (1-1) to a 7-0 lead after two innings.
La Verne Lutheran 7-2, Liberty Christian 6-6--Joe Ruiz struck out 12 of the 15 batters he faced and Gabe Baltodano hit a home run to lead Liberty Christian to a 6-2 five-inning victory in the second game at TeWinkle Park.
In the Brea-Olinda softball tournament:
La Habra 1, Ocean View 0 (6, time limit)--Dani Ortega pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts for La Habra (2-0). Amber Duarte singled in Aimee Weathers with the game’s only run. Ocean View is 1-1.
La Habra 1, Esperanza 0--Dani Ortega pitched a one-hitter striking out 11 for La Habra at Brea-Olinda High.
In the Cypress tournament:
Kennedy 5, Huntington Beach 1--Sophomore Lisa Pitt pitched a one-hitter for Kennedy (1-0).
Foothill 4, Long Beach Millikan 0--Amy Tessman pitched a three-hitter for Foothill (1-0).
In pool play of the Fullerton tournament:
Villa Park 21, Connelly 0 (5, mercy)--Jamie Hunter had three hits, three RBIs and four runs scored and Kendra Wood had four RBIs for Villa Park.
Villa Park 3, Santiago 0--Tammy Kincaid pitched a four-hitter and Kendra Wood hit a two-run single in the fourth for Villa Park.
In nonleague softball:
Loara 7-6, Canyon 1-5--Michelle Harrison hit into a fielder’s choice and Tammy Hyde scored from third with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth for host Loara (2-0) in the second. Hyde pitched a five-hitter in the opener.
At the Redondo Union boys’ volleyball tournament:
El Toro Wins--Ryan Mariano was named tournament MVP after leading El Toro past Long Beach Millikan, 15-7, in the tournament final.
