Whittier : City Opposes Canyon Project in Nearby La Habra Heights
- Share via
Whittier officials strongly oppose plans to build a golf course and housing development in Powder Canyon in nearby La Habra Heights.
In a letter signed by Whittier Mayor Bob Henderson, the City Council says it is concerned about possible damage to the Puente Hills, which run through both cities. The letter cites an environmental impact report that details harmful effects of the project to the wildlife, plant life and air quality in the hills.
Whittier council members said they are certain the project, which proposes moving 8 million tons of earth, would eventually cause the destruction of hundreds of acres of wildlife habitat.
The La Habra Heights City Council will hold a another public hearing on the Powder Canyon issue tonight at 6 at the city community center, 1245 N. Hacienda Blvd.
