Rod Langway of the Washington Capitals announced he is taking the rest of the season off--but does not plan to retire.
Langway, 35, who recently stepped down as captain, cited his decreasing role with the Capitals and his desire not to take playing time away from younger players.
“I just didn’t see my position getting any better,” Langway said. “It is for my well-being to get away from hockey a couple of months and get away from the team and let them get back into a playoff situation and to go with their best players, which they have been doing.”
