Adult volunteers are needed to lead children through exhibits at the Ventura County Science Fair on April 22 at the Ventura County Fairgrounds in Ventura, organizers said.
Hundreds of area school children are expected to enter exhibits in the fair, the theme of which will be “Reaching for a Better Future.” The theme was authored in a competition by Erik Abel, an eighth-grade student at Somis School in Somis.
Sixth- through 12-grade students in the county are eligible to participate in the fair, which is sponsored by the Ventura County Economic Development Assn. and the office of the Ventura County superintendent of schools.
Entries must be submitted by March 22. Winners will go on to the California State Science Fair May 24 and 25 at the Museum of Science and Industry in Los Angeles.
Prizes also are awarded for achievement in specialty sciences such as microbiology, engineering, energy, agriculture, communications and environmental science.
To volunteer, call one of the following people between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.: Diane Ourvan at (818) 880-6400, Elaine Daugherty at (805) 659-0182 or Diana Rigby at (805) 388-4410.
