Senate Team

I like The Times and am often inclined to look the other way when its reporters get a little sloppy. For example when it related that Marlo Thomas, my classmate at USC (class of ‘59), was 48 years of age, I barely blinked. Hell, maybe the naive reporter believed she was a child prodigy. Besides, as stated, I tend to be charitable where The Times is concerned--until now.

In telling the world that U.S. Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer are the “Thelma and Louise” of politics, you did more than miscalculate (March 8). Throughout the state, throughout the nation, indeed even in a banner headline in the Nov. 5 edition of the venerable London Times, these two officials have been designated as the “Cagney & Lacey” of politics.

“Thelma & Louise” may be a lot of things, including a very fine film and a commercial success, but it is not the first Hollywood female “buddy” project and it is not the correct political label for the new senatorial team from California.

I would like the record set straight, and to have my age left out of it.
