COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Betzsold’s RBI Double in Eighth Helps Titans Beat UNLV, End Two-Game Skid

Jim Betzsold’s two-run double in the eighth inning gave Cal State Fullerton the cushion it needed to beat Nevada Las Vegas, 5-3, in a Big West Conference baseball game Thursday in Las Vegas.
The victory ended the Titans’ two-game losing streak and improved their record to 23-9, 12-1 in conference.
Betzsold’s hit gave the Titans a 5-2 lead. UNLV (13-16, 4-6) scored a run in the bottom of the eighth to make the score 5-3.
Mike Parisi (7-0) gave up two earned runs, six hits in 7 1/3 innings and is 12-1 in his Fullerton career. Ted Silva earned his fourth save.
In nonconference baseball:
Fresno State 4, Chapman 3--Fresno State scored single runs in the sixth and ninth innings to overtake the Panthers. Chapman took a 3-1 lead with a three-run second inning.
The Master’s 6, Christ College Irvine 3--Jeff Tomlinson and Joe Pence went two for three for visiting Masters. Doug Senne was three for four for Christ College Irvine (10-18-2).
Southern California College 14, College of Ozarks 8--Josh Sewell was three for five with two RBIs for visiting Southern California College.
In the UC San Diego softball tournament:
Southern California College 3, La Verne 0--Beth Howard (9-6) pitched a three-hitter, striking out four and walking none for the Vanguards in a pool-play game. SCC (24-15-2) lost an earlier game to University of San Diego, 2-1.
