Car Crash Kills Jockey Steinberg After Record Meet

OKLAHOMA CITY — Pat Steinberg, a prominent jockey in the Midwest, was killed in a traffic accident Tuesday in Nebraska, a Remington Park track official said.
Steinberg, 31, was traveling alone to Omaha, where he planned to ride this summer at Ak-Sar-Ben, track spokesman Keith Chamblin said.
The car collided with a truck at a highway junction near Geneva, Neb., Chamblin said. The truck driver survived.
Steinberg, an El Paso native with a wife and two children, finished Remington’s spring meet on Sunday with a record 92 victories. He won 722 races and $6.6 million in his career.
