MOORPARK : Smoking Ban Likely in Eateries, Offices

After nearly two months of discussion, public testimony and technical revisions, the Moorpark City Council is set to adopt a new ordinance Wednesday that will outlaw smoking in restaurants, offices and all other indoor public areas except bars.
All five council members expressed support for the move last month but delayed final adoption of the ordinance to allow for minor wording changes and a meeting with the city’s restaurant owners.
Mayor Paul Lawrason said that barring unforeseen objections to the smoking ban or a need for extensive revisions, the law should be approved this week.
“I think its time has come, frankly, and I think everyone realizes it,” Lawrason said. “We as a body and as public officials need to move forward.”
Councilman Scott Montgomery also said he thought the ordinance would receive the council’s nod.
The council will discuss the proposed ban at its meeting Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Moorpark Community Center, 799 Moorpark Ave.
