FILLMORE : Middle School Wins Math Grant
For the fourth time, Fillmore Middle School has been awarded a cash grant as part of an effort to improve math programs in public schools.
Over the next three years, the school will receive up to $60,000 in grant money from the California Department of Education, Assistant Supt. Mario Contini said.
The money will be used to locate disadvantaged schools and provide them with information on Fillmore’s math program, said Contini, a former principal at the middle school.
In recent years, the school has received $120,000 in state grants to help develop the program, which integrates math and science and emphasizes a hands-on approach, Contini said.
