Roy Budd, 46, noted jazz pianist and composer who scored more than 50 films including “Get Carter.” The son of a London grocer, Budd taught himself to play the piano and gave his first public performance at age 7. In addition to the music for the 1971 thriller starring Michael Caine, his film scores included “The Wild Geese” in 1978. Adept at classical music as well as jazz, his latest work was a symphonic score for an 80-piece orchestra to accompany the 1925 silent film version of “Phantom of the Opera.” He had planned to conduct the premiere of the symphony on Sept. 21 in London. On Saturday in London of a brain hemorrhage.
