EDINBURGH : A Cultural Fest
The annual Edinburgh Arts Festival opens Sunday with a cornucopia of music, dance and theater in what has become the largest such gathering for the performing arts in the world.
This year’s attractions for two weeks in the Scottish capital will range from the Welsh National Opera and a historical look at Verdi to an open-air version of “Julius Caesar.”
As usual, the festivities will be enlivened by the Edinburgh Fringe--thousands of comics and other performers appearing in dozens of lesser venues around town.
A record 571 performing companies will present more than 1,200 Fringe shows--a spectacle that in size and audience now surpasses the festival itself.
