Five young people, ranging in age from 12 to 19, were shot Sunday near downtown, possibly in an escalating feud among gangs, Los Angeles police said.
One victim was in extremely serious condition, and the other four were expected to survive, said Sgt. Gary Grubbs. Four victims were male and one was female. Grubbs said it was not immediately known which of them was critically wounded.
The victims were standing on a street corner when a car drove by and people inside opened fire with a shotgun and other weapons, Grubbs said. The names of the victims were not immediately released. All were suspected gang members, as were the attackers, Grubbs added.
“Normally they miss,” he said. “This time they didn’t.”
