PICO RIVERA — Running backs Ron Leos and Marvin Artavia led Pico Rivera El Rancho to a 47-20 victory over Santiago Friday night at El Rancho.
Leos led El Rancho with 87 yards on seven carries and scored one touchdown. Artavia carried the ball three times for 77 yards and scored on runs of 16 and 34 yards.
After El Rancho built a 47-0 lead with 7:05 remaining in the third quarter, Santiago finally got its offense moving behind quarterback Christian Cortez. On the first play of the fourth quarter, Cortez scrambled 13 yards for a touchdown.
On the Cavaliers’ next drive, Cortez threw for the first of his two touchdown passes, good for 18 yards to tight end Juan Ramirez. The Cavaliers got deep into El Rancho territory after a face-mask penalty against the Dons brought the ball inside the Dons’ 20-yard line.
Cortez ran for 22 yards and a first down at the El Rancho 8-yard line, setting up his second touchdown pass, with Juan Tinoco on the receiving end of an 11-yard scoring pass, with 1:35 remaining in the game.
El Rancho outgained Santiago in total offense, 388-146. The Cavaliers had 73 yards total offense in the final quarter.
