Condition Upgraded for Twin Angela

PHILADELPHIA — Ten-week-old Angela Lakeberg, the twin who survived surgery to separate her from her sister last month, was upgraded Friday from critical to serious condition.
Angela “continues to grow slightly stronger with each day,” Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia said in a statement.
“Although an upgrade in a patient’s condition presents an optimistic picture, it is important to remember that this 10-week-old baby remains acutely ill and faces a long road to full recovery,” an unidentified surgeon said in the statement.
The hospital said the biggest step toward recovery is for Angela to breathe on her own. She has been on a ventilator since shortly after the conjoined twins were born June 29 at Loyola University Medical Center near Chicago.
