What becomes a string quartet most? The Anacapa String Quartet, now the Quartet-in-Residence at UCSB, has performed in concert halls and nightclubs, covering the musical waterfront from baroque to contemporary repertoire.
And, on Wednesday, they’ll play for the first time at Wheeler Hot Springs, 16825 Maricopa Highway, near Ojai, in a special dinner concert. After a prix fixe dinner, the respected quartet will finish off the feast with music of Mozart, Beethoven and Bartok.
Formed in 1989, the Anacapa--Chumash for “always changing, never the same”--consists of violinists Emma Rubinstein and Susan Parmeter, violist Kirsten Monke, and cellist Holly Reeves. When not pursuing quartet life, all play in the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra and Santa Barbara Symphony.
They’ve performed throughout the country and have been invited to a string quartet competition in Evian, France, in May.
Dinner is served at 6 p.m., with the concert beginning at 8. Tickets are $45. For information call 646-8131.
