Merging Police Services Is Bad Idea

In the article “Proposed Mergers of Police Services Gaining Acceptance” (Sept. 26), there is talk of linking Orange County’s police department records to a central office. I strongly disagree with this idea.

We have a hard enough time trying to control local crime as it is. I feel that with a larger, less centralized police department our community will suffer greatly. There is no guarantee that this plan is going to work. In the article, Los Alamitos Cmdr. Gary Biggerstaff said, “You will have a loss of local control.” He also stated, “It is also expensive to get out of it. Once you make the commitment you are stuck.” After reading these words of a person who really knows what he is talking about I am convinced that this plan will not work to the advantage of area residents.
