Regarding “Reluctant Welcome: They stepped off the boat onto Ellis Island to hostile glares, discrimination and blame. In 100 years, not much has changed,” (Oct. 3): In 100 years, California has gone from a population of about 1.2 million to more than 31 million. So, you see, much has changed.
