Tenants!: The Commercial Industrial Development Assn. will hold a dinner meeting Wednesday called “Tenants!Tenants!Tenants!--Gaining and Retaining Tenants in Today’s Marketplace” at the Irvine Marriott. Because of the real estate downturn in Southern California and the amount of space available, it’s really a tenant’s market, said Erik Hansen, managing partner with Lincoln Property Co. in Irvine.
“For a landlord, the challenge is like a game of musical chairs in reverse,” said Hansen, who is set to speak at the dinner. “The music stops and instead of one chair taken away, a chair is added. We’ve been battling not just the over-production of space but the additional space thrown on the market from company consolidation and movement out of the area.”
J.R. Wetzel, executive vice president with O’Donnell Property Services in Irvine; and Bruce Birkeland, director of commercial property services with the Sares-Regis Group in Irvine, are also expected to speak.
