MONTICELLO, Fla. — Four teen-agers, one as young as 13, were indicted Friday on charges of murder and attempted murder in the September slaying of a British tourist at a highway rest stop.
A grand jury took 3 1/2 hours to return the indictments in the shooting death of Gary Colley, 34, and the wounding of his girlfriend, Margaret Ann Jagger, 35.
The four charged are Cedric Demond Green, 13; Aundra Akins, 14; John Jerome Crumity, 16; and Deron Maurice Spear, 16.
Assistant State Atty. Mike Schneider said prosecutors may seek the death penalty against all four. The youngest inmate on Florida’s Death Row was 15 when he committed murder in 1990; two who killed at age 16 are facing death sentences.
Akins was identified in court documents as the one suspected of firing the fatal shot. Prosecutors say they have a tape on which Crumity admits having shot Jagger.
The four have been held in a juvenile detention center since their arrests earlier this month. At a hearing Friday, Jefferson County Judge Felix Johnston ordered all four held without bond. No date was set for the trial.
The slaying, which came less than a week after a German tourist was killed in Miami, generated worldwide publicity.
