Servite Runs Over Ocean View, Then Holds On to Win

Servite’s running game proved to be too much for Ocean View as the Friars scored a 14-12 Sunset League victory at Titan Stadium.

Servite running back Frank Patti led the charge by rushing for 142 yards in 13 carries. Teammate David Bernard rushed for 129 yards in 21 carries as the Friars were able to control the ball for most of the game.

Servite (2-5, 2-2 in league) opened the scoring in the second quarter when Patti ran 26 yards for a touchdown.

Ocean View (0-7, 0-4) scored on its next possession when Freddy Brown hit David Shaw with a 35-yard touchdown pass. However, the Seahawks missed the extra point and trailed, 7-6.

Ocean View had a chance to take the lead late in the second quarter. The Seahawks had the ball on the Friars’ 19-yard line, but came away empty-handed after Brown fumbled on a quarterback keeper.

On the opening possession of the second half, the Friars drove 76 yards and scored on Patti’s second touchdown, a 14-yard carry.

Ocean View came right back and scored on Brown’s five-yard run. The Seahawks decided to go for the two-point conversion but were denied when Brown was stopped two yards short.
