FULLERTON — La Habra intercepted four passes and ruined Fullerton High’s 100th birthday and homecoming celebration with a 14-13 victory in a Freeway League game Friday night.
Fullerton’s final drive in the closing minutes ended in an interception by Alex Aldaco. Aldaco, a senior defensive back, finished with two interceptions.
“He’s a great athlete” La Habra Coach Rick Milhizer said.
So is Fullerton’s Keith Ginter.
With Fullerton (3-4, 0-2) trailing 14-0 at halftime, Ginter, who completed 13 passes for 135 yards, took over for quarterback Chris Young.
On the opening play of the second half, Ginter ran around left end and sprinted 80 yards for the score.
When Fullerton Coach Julian Smilowitz was asked about the switch, he replied, “Keith is a good athlete, and he proved that tonight. And our passing game wasn’t too good in the first half.”
La Habra (3-4, 2-0) took a 6-0 lead on Sonje Berg’s one-yard run. The Highlanders added another score with a couple of minutes left in the first half.
Berg passed one yard to Erik Abbott then hit Donny Cisneros with a two-point conversion.
Ginter scored on a one-yard run with 7:07 remaining in the game, but Luis Leon’s conversion kick failed.
