No Laughing Matter: Laff Rock Inc., a Newport Beach-based nightclub operator, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy proceedings Monday. The company listed $176,740.22 in assets and $1.1 million in liabilities.
Laff Rock had operated a handful of clubs in Southern California, including the Laff Stop comedy club in Santa Ana Heights. Most of the clubs, however, had closed in recent years. Paul G. Mast, an attorney who represents the company, linked the failure to “the bad economy, which forced them out of business.”
Mast said the failed club was not connected to the Laff Stop establishment in Newport Beach, which remains open.
