PALO ALTO — The U.S. national soccer team, minus some of its best players, will play Germany today at noon in a World Cup tune-up at Stanford Stadium.
The United States will play the defending World Cup champion without forwards Roy Wegerle and Eric Wynalda and midfielders John Harkes and Tab Ramos, who are playing professionally in Europe.
Thomas Dooley and Ernie Stewart, who scored all the Americans’ goals in a 4-3 loss to Germany last June in the U.S. Cup, will play today.
Germany, which lost its first game in a year when it dropped a 2-1 decision to Argentina on Wednesday in Miami, is expected to field most of its regulars.
