Santa Ana Man Shot at Telephone Booth by Would-Be Robber

SANTA ANA — A Santa Ana man was shot and wounded at a phone booth early Sunday morning when he told a would-be robber that he did not have any money, police said.
The shooting occurred at 2:05 a.m. at a phone booth at 17th and North Main streets, said Santa Ana Police Sgt. Dick Faust. Jose Ramirez, 20, of Santa Ana, was using the phone when a man walked up, demanding money.
“When he told (the assailant) that he had no money, (Ramirez) was shot in the left thigh,” Faust said.
Ramirez was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana and admitted with a broken leg.
He was in stable condition Sunday, Faust said.
Police are seeking the assailant.
