Monique Huey of San Clemente High School has been named a finalist in ‘Teen Magazine’s 1994 Miss Teenage America program.
Huey, 16, will be among 12 finalists competing for the title of Miss Teenage America during events running today through Thursday in Los Angeles.
More than 10,000 girls between the ages of 13 and 18 entered the annual competition from around the nation. Finalists were selected based on scholastic achievement, general awareness, individual accomplishments, community service, poise and personality.
Established in 1961, the competition is designed to recognize the country’s outstanding young women.
The winner, to be named Wednesday at the Hotel Nikko in Beverly Hills, will receive a $15,000 college scholarship, a monthly column in the magazine and the opportunity to travel as spokeswoman for several companies that sponsor the contest.
