Juan Antonio Samaranch, president of the International Olympic Committee, was outbid for the final countdown T-shirt in downtown Lillehammer.
Harald Belsvik, a local businessman, has been auctioning a T-shirt a day for the last three years, starting with one that said “1,000 days left till the Olympics,” turning the proceeds over to the Lillehammer Olympic Organizing Committee.
Saturday’s said “1 day left till the Olympics,” and went for 56,000 Norwegian kroner--more than $7,500--to Arthur Buchardt, a businessman. Samaranch dropped out of the bidding at 50,000 kroner.
