Voice Powered Posts 1st Quarterly Profit

Voice Powered Technology International Inc. in Canoga Park reported a fourth-quarter profit of $298,000, the first quarterly profit since the voice-recognition consumer-electronics maker was launched in 1992.

The profit for the quarter ended Dec. 31 contrasts with a loss of $2 million in the same period a year earlier. Revenue more than tripled to $5.33 million from $1.51 million a year earlier.

For the full year, Voice Powered posted a loss of $10.5 million on revenue of $16.8 million.
