SEASON AT A GLANCE: Cantrell played on the junior varsity last season, then grew four inches to 6-foot-4 over the summer. He has exceeded all expectations with averages of 21 points and 8.2 rebounds for the Saints (15-7). He averaged 23.6 points and 10.8 rebounds in Frontier League play as the Saints extended their league winning streak to 84 games.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Cantrell had 32 points and 10 rebounds in a 74-51 victory over Calabasas and 31 points and 14 rebounds in a 77-58 victory over Nordhoff. Against Calabasas, Cantrell made 13 of 18 shots from the field, including four of five three-pointers. Lou Cvijanovich, Santa Clara’s coach of 36 seasons, compares Cantrell with his best players, including UCLA’s Shon Tarver and former Washington State player Joe Wallace. Said Lou Cvijanovich: “He can put the ball on the floor and he can shoot the three as good as anybody.”
