American Heidi Voelker had a disappointing day in the giant slalom, posting a slow first run and crashing on the second.
“I definitely think I was nervous,” said the 24-year-old from Pittsfield, Mass. “It was disappointing because I was stiff and timid.”

Diann Roffe-Steinrotter, forced to miss the second run of the GS because of flu, started to get ill right after last week’s super-G, in which she won the gold.
“I don’t think she ever considered dropping out,” her husband, Willi, said. “She’d rather race than not race.”
Roffe-Steinrotter stood 27th after the morning run.
“There was no life in her skiing,” said Paul Major, the U.S. Alpine director.
