Quiksilver Says It Nearly Tripled Profit in Latest Quarter

Quiksilver Inc., a Costa Mesa designer and distributor of sportswear, said it earned $1.5 million, or 23 cents a share, for its latest quarter. That was nearly triple the company’s profit of $593,000, or 9 cents a share, for the same period a year earlier. Net income for the latest quarter included the effect of an accounting change. Sales for the company’s first fiscal quarter, which ended Jan. 31, were up more than 27% to $24.3 million from $19.0 million for the same period a year earlier.
