Daniel MacMillan
Corona del Mar, Sr.
Baseball / Pitcher
As a freshman in 1991, MacMillan combined with teammate Neil Weber on a no-hitter. Last season, he pitched a one-hitter in a Sea View League victory over Newport Harbor. Thursday, MacMillan achieved an elusive goal: a perfect game. He retired every batter he faced in a 1-0 victory over Foothill in a consolation semifinal at the Newport Elks tournament. He struck out 11, including five in a row at one point. Only one batted ball left the infield against MacMillan, who had a 1.88 earned-run average last season.
Other notables:
* Mike Brambilla, Brea-Olinda, had a homer, a double and four RBIs in a 7-3 victory over Edison in the title game of the El Segundo tournament.
* Todd Steinert, El Toro, was named the Division I MVP of the county volleyball championships after leading the Chargers to the title.
* Chris Vlasic, Pacifica, averaged 21.3 points in victories over Servite, San Diego St. Augustine and University of San Diego High in Division III playoffs.
* Pete Zamora, Capistrano Valley, batted .636 with three homers and seven RBIs and won two games pitching as Cougars won Newport Elks’ title.
