BAL HARBOUR, Fla. — President Clinton and First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton helicoptered Sunday to a pricey resort island that promises “a serene, pampered environment.”
The Clintons arrived in Florida a day early for a health care forum and Democratic fund-raiser scheduled for today.
The Clintons took the day off on Fisher Island, a 216-acre exclusive resort south of Miami Beach and north of Key Biscayne. The island is accessible only by helicopter and ferry; a private security force keeps unwanted visitors away.
The Clintons arrived in Miami late Sunday afternoon, then made the brief trip to the island aboard Marine One. The suite used by the Clintons cost the White House $500, spokesman Jeff Eller said.
