As a sophomore, Lauby led the Chargers to the semifinals of the Southern Section playoffs. Last season, the Chargers failed to make the playoffs. After struggling last season, Lauby has regained her dominating form. Wednesday, Lauby struck out 20 in a 3-0 victory over Mission Viejo. She allowed one hit--a bunt single in the first inning--and walked one. She struck out eight in a row twice. Friday, against Capistrano Valley, she pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts in a 5-0 victory. Lauby has signed with Northwestern.
Other notables:
* Angela Burgess, Woodbridge, won the discus in 143 feet 3 inches, the best mark of the season in the county, in a dual-meet victory over Tustin.
* Jennifer Deane, Sunny Hills, gave up four hits in 12 innings of a 1-0 victory over Fullerton.
* Debbie Goddu, Whittier Christian, pitched her fourth consecutive shutout in a 1-0 victory over Brethren Christian. She also scored the game’s only run.
* Brandee McArthur, Villa Park, pitched a one-hitter with 16 strikeouts in a 1-0 victory over El Modena.
