World IN BRIEF : GUATEMALA : U.S. Woman Saved From Angry Mob

A Philadelphia woman was whisked to safety by U.S. Embassy security guards in Guatemala City after a group of enraged Guatemalans accused her of stealing a baby she recently adopted. The woman, identified as Janice Wogel, was traveling with her 6-month-old Guatemalan child on a bus when passengers began to accuse her of stealing the baby, a police spokesman said. When Wogel got off the bus the hostile passengers chased her. She called the U.S. Embassy, which sent security guards to escort her to safety.
